When Poets Pray

(Wisdom from other Writers)

Is it Enough? By LeAnn McDannel Hodges

Is it Enough? By LeAnn McDannel Hodges

Is it enough
to hold space with a dying friend?
To sing her one last song
and wash her hands
with your tears?
How do you thank the one
who lit your path
around many dark corners?
Who broke through glass ceilings
with her bare hands,
and bore the scars with grace?
How do you thank the one
who confides in you
with a spark of deep wisdom
that it was all worth it?
“Yes, dear heart,
it was so very worth it.”
Is it enough to simply say thank you?
To hold space with her dying body?
Today, I believe it is.

Go in peace, dear Margee.
Rest in beauty.

This beautiful poem was written to honor the life of Rev. Dr. Margee Iddings, who was an inspiration, friend, and support to many.
